This morning as I was listening to one of my favourite preacher/teachers – Alistair Begg – I was led to begin a new series of messages on this site focusing on amazing examples of men and women who were converted to Christianity in unusual ways and who have shared their stories.

If you have not come to that place yourself, I’m hoping hearing about other sceptics or unbelievers and how God reached them may lead you to consider your choices and your own eternal destiny.

I’ve also begun reading a wonderful book “Mere Evangelism” based on the teachings of C.S. Lewis and am reminded that everyone has a place in their hearts and minds for the Lord and we may be the one who can reach that place – just as we hear examples of just how that may unfold.  So – today I’m beginning this series – How God Reaches us – with the example shared by Alistair on May 26, 2022.

“Alistair remembers meeting the author of “Darwin’s Black Box” – Mr. Michael Behe whose book helped to launch the “Intelligent Design Movement”.  He is a Professor of Biological Sciences at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.  This book is recognized as one of the most important books of the 20th Century.

The Question arises – How did he become a believer?  Was he brought up in a believing home?  Was he faced with a struggle? …..

It was really none of these.  His testimony tells us that he and his wife were debating over – which one of them would attend their son’s VBS wrap up event.  He actually says – his wife won and he was forced to go.  Here is what he thought of the presenter for the event.

“The fellow who spoke was hopeless with very little progression in what he was saying BUT I think he believed what he said and that was unsettling to me.  It was that terrible talk that God used as the 1st hook into my heart and mind – that brought me to the written word, into the presence of the living word and has enabled me to declare all these things about the majesty and the nature of God.

Wow – imagine – an unbelieving professor of biological science, who was coerced into attending an event where he heard a poorly prepared and delivered Bible message.  However, the messenger was used by God to lead this highly educated man to His word and to Himself.

What I hear in this testimony is that – we have a responsibility to share the Gospel especially with the goal of leading people to the Word of God.  That even if we may not be waxing eloquently, God can use us and lead people to Himself.

Hoping this will encourage you to continue on in this series and hear how He has reached others in surprising ways.  Thank You Alistair for speaking into my heart to be active in evangelism in this way beginning today.   God Bless.
